Italy, the camera phone edition:

Posted on | October 24, 2013 | 2 Comments

We've made it back to the states!

Actually we made it back a week ago today.  Funny how quickly you jump back into routine with work, toddler craziness, and house chores and then suddenly I realized I haven't updated.

Italy was... wonderful.  I'm actually finding it hard to believe we were actually there, oddly enough.  I have a SD card full of wonderful pictures but am having difficulties with my Mac and it's storage space (I obviously keep WAY too many photos, gulp).  I'm hoping sometime between work and battling jet lag with Hazel I will double back up my photos and delete some off the mac so I can share some Italy goodness.

I'll share a few photos below that either me or my sister-in-law snapped throughout our stay on our phones.  I realized while there how lucky I am to have an in-law who is a photographer!

The town of Mondovi, Italy where we were staying (photo cred to my sis-in-law)

The photos below are various shots from Venice.  Love, love, LOVE that city.

And then a few more back in home base...

Until next time, Italy...

A quick note to say we made it to Italy!  The plane rides went smooth, & we're kind of sort of getting over jet lag (not counting Hazel - she magically wakes up around 12 am every night for 2-3 hours despite how tired she is from a full day). H slept for about 5 hours of the long flight from Utah to Paris, and there was only one meltdown (from mama - hah!) at the Paris airport.  I've decided being up for 27 hours, pregnant, and way too much nursing to keep a flying baby happy makes me nuts.  It's the hormones, right?

Here we are in front of my sister-in-laws apartment.  It's pretty darn magical here.  I hope you are all well, will try to post more photos.  Hazel's odd sleep schedule actually gives me some online downtime while on vacation, funny enough.

Ciao!

Michigan & my heart

A week ago I returned from a trip home to Upper Michigan.  It was a trying visit filled with family drama, major fights, and a teething toddler with a 102 degree fever the first few days.  Not one person in my family invited me to stay with them, have dinner in their homes, or really even see me (all because they don't like my mom).  And did I mention I traveled alone?  Six plane rides is a bit much for one mama and her crazy yet lovely girl.  I've spent the last week trying not to dwell or hold grudges, but to remember the good parts of the visit.  The dancing, laughing, the reunion, old friends, my sister, and the beach.  Ahh the beach, I probably would've gone crazy without her.

Oh Upper Michigan, you'll always have my heart.

I'm just not sure I'll be seeing you for a while.

So far these lovely artists will be joining us on the road:

Bon Iver, Band of Horses, Ani Difranco, Cat Stevens, Ray Lamontagne (um, have you heard the new album - delicious!), Eddie Vedder, and Joan Baez.

Any other suggestions?  C'mon folks it's a 13 hour drive.

The Journey

Posted on | September 7, 2010 | 3 Comments

Five years ago, we embarked on a journey.

I fell in love with a man that year.  We camped in a cold, purple tent and ate ramen noodles at Old Faithful.

The sights were extraordinary.

The geyers, unreal.

(even though they tried to frighten us)

Wildlife around every corner, we ooh'd and aah'd while pointing fingers.

I learned to fly fish here, watching & listening to this man with such intent.

We caught some,

And I certainly lost some.

But he still loved me.

And me, him.

In five days we venture back to Yellowstone to celebrate 2 years of wedded bliss.

Happy Anniversary, my love & best friend.
