Michigan & my heart
Posted on | July 17, 2013 | 5 Comments
A week ago I returned from a trip home to Upper Michigan. It was a trying visit filled with family drama, major fights, and a teething toddler with a 102 degree fever the first few days. Not one person in my family invited me to stay with them, have dinner in their homes, or really even see me (all because they don't like my mom). And did I mention I traveled alone? Six plane rides is a bit much for one mama and her crazy yet lovely girl. I've spent the last week trying not to dwell or hold grudges, but to remember the good parts of the visit. The dancing, laughing, the reunion, old friends, my sister, and the beach. Ahh the beach, I probably would've gone crazy without her.
Oh Upper Michigan, you'll always have my heart.
I'm just not sure I'll be seeing you for a while.

I can relate. I am from Wisconsin and I haven't been back to visit for several years. Our vacations back home have always been exhausting (even apart from air travel with children)trying to make everyone happy and make sure and spend equal time with each of the sets of grandparents and siblings.Drama for sure. ack!Not vacations at all, they left us feeling very drained. I love my family and seeing old friends, but...yeah.
Your photos look beautiful. Yay for the beach always a soul soother. My home town is on the Mississippi river so I would always escape there.
P.s. I had my eye out for you and Hazel at Country Fair. Keeping track of three kids in the crowd is a little crazy and I feel I hardly looked up.Hope you guys had fun!

I'm glad you got to visit! Sorry you didn't get to see much of your family! We are headed to Michigan in less than 2 weeks (the kids and I) and I can't wait to spend our days on the shore of Lake Michigan! :)

What lovely photos-- your daughter is so beautiful. There is always lots of drama when I go back home to Chicago as well. Sorry that it was a bit of a rough trip. At least you can really enjoy being home now!

To preface: Hazel is adorable and I love your photos. I am not a parent and don't presume to know much about kids, however, my niece accidentally dislocated her elbow (nursemaid's) when her mother and grandfather swung her just as you're doing with Hazel. I had no idea kids' little arms were so fragile. Careful please - I'd hate for this to happen to you. My sister still feels horribly guilty even though their pediatrician told her it's a common accident. :-(
