Flashback Friday: May '86

My sister & me on my first birthday, May 1986 (if you couldn't tell, I'm on the right).

I've been planning a small shindig for H's first birthday, which is a week from today.  I find my self vacillating between being uber excited & kind of freaked out - how has an entire year gone by already?  On one hand it feels like the blink of an eye, on the other an entire lifetime.  Despite absolutely loving every minute of this wonderful almost-toddler, I will fondly remember the newborn days of cuddles & breastmilk breath (honestly, sometimes she still has it ha!).  We're keeping the party small & I'm going with a 'woodland' theme since H is such a natural soul, always so tranquil when in the presence of nature.

How did all of you other mommas feel on your first borns birthday?  Any tips?

isn't it crazy how fast a year can go? time sure does fly. advice: a one year old doesn't really care much about a party, so make the party more about you (it's your birth day too!). After this, it will be all about them...;)

Hi April! It's been a while... :) Yeah, that's true, one year olds really don't care too much about the party so, do something that you'll enjoy, mostly.
There was one thing I did and that I'm really glad I did. I had everyone (grandma and grandpa, uncles and aunts, closest friends...) write down what they would wish for Alice's life, in the future, in one sentence (preferably). I have a friend who is a graphic designer and so, I had all the wishes sent to her and she made a really nice poster out of it, with Alice's picture in the center. I put it in a frame and gave it to her on her first birthday. It's now in her room and I absolutely love it. And I'm sure she will too, one day. I'll make one for Laura too, soon (she'll be 1 in March).
Hope you like the idea. :)

Happy Birthday Hazel and happy Birth Day April! The first year goes so fast, I have had a hard time every first Birthday with my kids, I just love the tiny baby stage so much It was hard for me to let it go. But every year they become more themselves and we just keep loving them more and more as they change. Bittersweet. Hope you both have a wonderful time :)
