Day 4
Posted on | October 23, 2010 | No Comments
I think maybe it's time to go back, finish what I started. See, that is what I do best. I go and keep on going, not bothering to finish a thought before jumping to the next.
And I know it's been over a month, but here I go, it's time to finish what I started. To go back to where I belong.
Day 4: Thursday, September 16 2010
We awoke this morning with no plans, sleeping in until 8 am (wow!). I had the tetons on my brain all week, yet refused to say it due to the couple hour drive we'd be forced to make. Luckily my better half turned towards me, nose red with a smile on his face, "I say we hit up the Grand Tetons today." And you can bet I melted.
We explored the southern part of YNP as we drove towards the extraordinary horizon. I noticed as soon as we left Yellowstone the deciduous trees took over, their leaves already turning to golds and browns.
I read a blog a few weeks back about a gal that worked in Yellowstone over her summer. She posted about two lakes called Taggart and Bradley lakes, and this phenominal hike to them. I immediately got out my map and navigated B as he drove towards the southern part of the park where the trailhead is.
We got to the trailhead and made a quick lunch while sparking up conversation with two elderly yet adorable folks from Wisconsin. They told us stories from when they backpacked the tetons in their 50's. The woman said she wore sneakers while hiking across a glacier, laughing and exchanging cute glances with her husband the entire time. Again, I melted.
As we hiked through this gorgeous forest tucked in by golden maples, I just about died. I can say for a fact that I experienced some of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.
As we lay on the shore of Taggart Lake, we laughed and said, "this is the most relaxing thing we've done all week!" And it was, I could have stayed there forever. (although the winters would get to me eventually!).
The drive home was uneventful, calling family whenever we managed to find a signal to make sure the fur babies were still alive. B immediately hopped into waders when we got to camp, as did I. While fishing the Madison it was insanely windy & the french fisherman across from us were cocking their heads at me while smoking cigars. But you don't let things like that bother you in YNP...
However sometimes things like this bother you ... after all, it is 30 degrees outside.
But after a few drinks around the campfire, B managed to dry my pants & sock by fire.
What a man.
Tomorrow we finish our trip taking a solo mountain bike tirp to grand pristmatic spring, and eating real food!
