Oh, Ani

I attended a concert last night, an astounding folk singer named Ani Difranco, and it was beautiful. The fan base were artists, musicians, eccentric yet peaceful & philosophical people. I went with a friend more out of pity than need, hoping in some way this conservative self described "hippy" (actually the furthest thing from it) would find the same amount of joy in live music as I. Rather than joining me closing her eyes and clapping with the music, her posture was erect, her face somber. Instead of complimenting the opening artist she stated, "I really want to fix her hair."

Later Ani came on and began playing a new song to Obama - this silly woman, or girl should I say, began to text message her uber-right winged husband saying how lame this song was. It was a inspirational, beautiful song that brought many in the audience to tears. Her only comments after the show were how "weird" the fans were and how she felt uncomfortable with the show in general (Ani is very political, an activist of sort in some of her songs). She then said that I need to go to the rodeo in her home town(Eastern Oregon, population 250), it's "completely opposite" of that and "amazing."

Where in the hell do I find people like this? Really.

Yeah everyone is a fucking napoleon. -Ani D

Haha yes, it made me VERY angry as well. I gave her some Ani to listen to and she acted like she was super excited and pumped, but then 30 minutes before the show said "to be honest her music makes me sleepy." She's such a weird girl, one of those types of people who has no idea who she is, tries to be different forms around different people.

I wish it could have been you :)
