{christmas: exciting for more than just humans!}

...

Our Christmas was simply relaxing, a day we most definitely needed.  Numerous times throughout the day I felt in complete awe that this is our last christmas as just 'us two' - the childless couple, who despite their zoo of animals, still can sleep in until ten and open gifts at our leisure after showering and phone calls are made.  I know we're truly three, if you think about it.  But this soul inside of me, well she's a part of me still; her and I, we make one.  And she's just the one we've been waiting for.  I hope your Christmas was as lovely as ours.  xoxo.

Ps: one picture did not suffice!

Gratitude Sunday & December 11 DPP

Posted on | December 11, 2011 | 3 Comments

Gratitute Sunday

Sunday's heartfelt tradition. A time to slow down, to reflect, to be grateful. A list of gratitudes:
{Inspired by the beautiful Taryn of Wooly Moss Roots}
  • Our local holiday market - sometimes I take for granted what a wonderful, talented community we live in.  It feels so wonderful to buy gifts from local merchants rather than large-scale corporations.
  • Family visiting.  With my mother a good 2000+ miles away, it's nice to have the in-laws here celebrating such a joyous occasion.
  • My husband.  As I type this he is out taking care of our home and our property.  A dead tree came down on a power line last week - and of course the electric company didn't care, so b to the rescue it was!
  • Speaking of holiday market, seeing a wonderful friend and fellow blogger, Taryn, at her booth last week.  We have been trying to meet up at market for months and finally she and her family could meet this sweet soul in my belly!
  • My daily hypnobabies scripts and positive affirmations.  It's a wonderful tool and I find that any fear of birthing is now out the window - I'm simply excited for it!
  • A beautiful baby shower.  I received so many hand-made gifts, including my friends home sewn cloth diapers (see below!).  I'm so blessed with wonderful & talented friends!
{how wonderful are these cloth diapers and the matching dress?}
{ps: counting this as my december photo project, tee hee!)
  • The fact that five of my six chickens survived today.  We came home to a slight massacre involving a hawk and a wellsummer named Holly.  Poor Holly, I will miss your tasty eggs!
  • Reconnecting with an old friend who I hadn't seen in 9 years.  We met in 1st grade and were great friends through graduation, and she just moved out to Portland!  It was a wonderful meet up.
  • A chance to have a photo shoot with my husband, as blogged about earlier this week.  I love the creative shots we come up with together.
  • And of course, all of my readers, I'm truly grateful for you!

{'My house is, quite literally, a dream come true. It's not perfect by any means and please do us both a favor and remove any bucolic certainties you may have formed over the months and years. A lot of it is rough, unpleasant, smelly, muddy, decaying and in need of repair. This is not a movie set, and I am fairly certain Martha Stewart would run from it, screaming. But it is paradise to me, and the scruffy parts are what make it so.'}

December photo project: day 1

Posted on | December 1, 2011 | 3 Comments

Thought I'd give this a try: capture a photograph the first 25 days of December, the final photo on Christmas day (hey, told you I had cheer!).  Not only will it get me posting on my blog more often, but it will also make me take my camera out even more!

I've also been inspired by a blog titled habit, also documenting via photos the daily life of absolute strangers each month.  Very similar idea to this: a non-posed photo from each day, celebrating small bits of our daily lives.  Check it out.

Cheer

2 Comments

Over the past few days, I've come down with something.  It isn't the head cold my dear husband has, or the GI bug half of my patient have had lately.  It's something simple yet grandiose; holiday cheer, something I've never truly experienced.  In the years past, especially those in which we were going through infertility, something was empty.  See here, and here for prime examples.  But now, well now I wake up with this desire to listen to Christmas music, bake cookies, and decorate the house like my mother once did.  We picked up a Christmas tree from a local SERF certified farm, and I find myself daydreaming of picking out trees with our daughter someday.

& I think I've finally realized something - this time of year, no matter your religious or cultural preferences, it's about family.  This little girl I'm incubating has made our family whole.  Admist putting up lights outside, I also washed all of her clothes and cloth diapers, forgetting the fact she's not due for about 60 more days.  Because although I will treasure each and every one of these days I am pregnant, I cannot wait to meet her.

Here are some more photos of our little nest:

{A bit tropical looking, with the Oregon greenery}

{local holly from our propery}

{The one room I am embarrassed to photograph is above - the laundry room.  Nearly two years of living here and we still haven't gotten any curtains! The furry ones surely love to sleep in here, however.}

{Oh woodstove, how we love thee - and wish so badly we could use you!}

...

So tell me about you, friends. Any holiday cheer bursting from your seams?
