A letter: 6 months
Posted on | August 2, 2012 | 4 Comments
Baby Hazel,
Today you turned 6 months old. I simply cannot believe it, how is it time has passed by so quickly? You laughed in the grass as I sang happy birthday... I will forever cherish the photo below!
You're still one of the happiest babies I know, it really takes a lot to make you sad. You smile at everyone, although you smile the biggest at your mama and daddy. I've noticed daddy makes you laugh so easily these days, I want to learn his secret!
You're sleeping well, some nights only waking up once to nurse. You're still co-sleeping with us, which you and I both love. When you do wake at night you look over and see me and easily fall back asleep. Daddy and I have discussed you going in your crib, but I don't see that happening too soon. Why'd we buy that darn thing, anyways? I simply feel so much safer when you're near us in our room.
You still haven't been watched by anyone other than your daddy or myself. You spend your mornings with both of us, then one of us works in the evenings. I love that we get to spend so much time with you, but we hope someday soon we can start having more family days off together!
You have your favorite toys - a turkey we named Tom, and of course your Sophie teether. We also got a hand me down jumper and you LOVE it, sometimes yelling and laughing so hard I can hear you all the way upstairs! You also love visiting with other babies, holding (and sucking) their hands and smiling at them.
You've been rolling over both ways since you were about 4 months old! You pretty much always want to be on you belly, and you've even started crawling a little bit - or 'plowing' as I like to call it. Plowing basically is you putting your butt in the air and pushing forward with your head down, like a plow. You aren't going long distances but you can move a few feet in just a minute or two! You haven't quite mastered sitting up unassisted, however. You sit in your bumbo and high chair just fine, but you have taken a few face plants into the bed and carpet. Sorry love!
You tackled your first cold last week. You and daddy caught a pretty lousy cold and you were so sad the first day/night you had it. But mommas milk nursed you back to health quickly, and now you just have a bit of snot here and there but are acting happy and healthy again!
You have two teeth already, both on the bottom. June 30th and July 9th they popped in (yes, mommas track dates like that!) You were pretty sad in the days before each popped in, but we found that breastmilk popsicles worked like a charm! I have a feeling your third is coming any day now!
Right now you asleep upstairs with your daddy. I can hear your rhythmic breathing on the baby monitor, such a sweet sound. In a few short minutes I'll join you in bed, taking in the smell of your hair and skin. Pretty sure I could inhale you on a constant basis my love. I'll wake tomorrow and pinch myself, a daily habit since having you in my life has been a dream come true.
We love you, Hazel Annan. Forever and always,
xoxo
Mama

Gulp choking back tears of joy for you, so much love in your words.
Happy Birthday, halfway around the sun already?
Of course she loves nature, think of all the adventures she has already been on. I would love to meet up and hike with you guys sometime...maybe we could meet somewhere in the middle?
I agree with you, crib schmib. Although with my dear babe it is like sleeping with a lobster crab who pinches and kicks all night long..sigh. although just a Warning: we planned to have our first baby move out of our bed at 6 months and she slept with us until she was 5 and would sneak in bed with us in the middle of the night until she was 7 and her baby brother was in bed with us..
What a beautiful sweet baby Hazel. So much fun to "see" you grow!

April,
Your letters to Hazel are the sweetest. So heartwarming to read.
Hazel is so photogenic! What a beauty.
I love the idea of breastmilk popsicles. Genius.
Love, Taryn
